6 October City, the western suburb of Cairo, has become so massive recently that you can drive for half an hour and still be in the same neighborhood -- and who has time for that in this day and age? For those living in the area of Palm Hills and New Giza, it used to be that you would have to take the aforementioned 30 minute drive to go to places like Arkan Plaza or Park St. West in Sheikh Zayed, where all the restaurants and cafes are... but no longer!
Good news: the plateau that’s home to Palm Hills, New Giza, and multiple other compounds now has its own fair share of restaurants, cafes, bars and food trucks, so no more unnecessary long drives! But which nearby dining spots are the best?
Here’s some of our favorite restaurants near Palm Hills and New Giza, with something for every mood:
Izakaya

Location: Palm Central
The first Nikkei restaurant in Egypt (Peruvian-Japanese fusion), Izakaya offers everything from ceviche to omakase, in a beautiful bar and outdoor dining area. They’re open from brunch onwards, so it’s a great spot if you want to have lunch in the sun or sushi under the stars.

Andrea Mariouteya

Location: New Giza
A casual family-favorite classic for decades now, Andrea Mariouteya serves up the same great grills it has since 1958. Their menu is limited to grilled chicken, grilled quail, fresh pita bread straight from the oven, homemade fries, some starters and some dips, but what more does anyone need? (They also serve an equally great breakfast!) The restaurant is on an iconic open-air terrace with views over the city.

The Smokery Cairo West

Location: Hyatt Centric Cairo West
Overlooking the Pyramids of Giza at the Hyatt Centric hotel, The Smokery offers an elevated international menu as well as sushi. This indoor/outdoor space has both high tables for a more cocktail bar feel at night, as well as lower tables for those in the mood to eat and drink while looking out at the Pyramids and the sprawling city below.

Scalini

Location: Palm Central
In the mood for Italian? Scalini was first established in London in 1988, so this Italian restaurant has been going strong for awhile, and it’s definitely the best Italian food in the Palm Hills and New Giza area. They have indoor and outdoor dining as well as a beautiful bar, and open from lunch (3 pm) onwards.

Gigi

Location: Golf Central
Gigi is a restobar known for its upscale comfort food – think pizza, burgers, potato skins, quesadillas, mac n cheese – all the things we love to indulge in. They also have TV screens for when there’s any big sports match going on, and a fun, jovial feel with beer and wine at night.

Esca Cueva

Location: New Giza
Esca Cueva by far has the most stunning interior design and ambient layout of any of the restaurants on this list – pair it with its cityscape views and opulent menu, and it’s the type of restaurant you’d take your friends from out of town if you want to impress them. It’s quiet and calm during the day, but at night it becomes more of a nightlife hotspot and reservations are required.

Location: Palm Central
A warm family-run restaurant, Mamina’s focuses on their culinary legacy through their own beloved recipes. Their menu is a mix of Egyptian, Italian and Mediterranean fusion, with everything from roz meammar with pigeon to ossobucco to pizza.
